Mobile: An Economic Force

Mobile, Alabama is a beautiful southern city with a rich history containing many preserved historic districts and locations. It’s a major economic force along the gulf coast with:

Even though Dauphin Island lies just 30 minutes south of Mobile on the Gulf of Mexico, Mobile Bay and the area rivers provide for outdoor activities as well as full time water front living. The bay and rivers allow for a quintessential, relaxed southern lifestyle where people enjoy:

Accessible to Beaches

Annual Carnival Celebration

Mobile actually held the first known Mardi Gras celebration in 1703, before the City of New Orleans. Mobile's annual Mardi Gras celebration lasts over two weeks concluding on Fat Tuesday and is generally a smaller and more family friendly version.

Along with the yearly celebration, residents of Mobile (and their children, in particular) look forward to all of the:

Location, Location!

Mobile, Alabama’s location is one of its strengths. For example, it is:

  • Centrally located on the northern gulf coast
  • Subtropical climate with yearly avg. temperature of 67.5 degrees
  • 2-hours drive to New Orleans
  • 1.5 hours drive to Pensacola Beach
  • 1-hour drive to Mississippi casinos and hotels

Education

The younger population is bolstered by two 4-year universities -- Spring Hill College and the University of South Alabama. Both are located a few miles from each other in the heavily treed and residential Spring Hill area of Mobile.

The University of South Alabama is a fast growing diverse and vibrant public university with nearly 15,000 students. Its medical and nursing schools in particular are recognized nationally.

This University has a full array of Division I men’s and women’s athletic programs including:

  • Football
  • Basketball
  • Baseball

Culture & Attractions

Known as a cultural center of the Gulf Coast, Mobile has:

  • Several art museums and galleries
  • Performing arts theater and symphony orchestra
  • Large concentration of historic architecture
  • Gulf Coast Emporium

Two of the most visited tourist attractions are the USS Alabama Battleship Memorial Park and the world famous Bellingrath Gardens and Home.
